Fitness Meets VR Gaming As You Can Skydive While Exercising With ICAROS

This futuristic device will make you want to exercise like never before! While people have combined exercising with things like music and television to make the activity more entertaining, the combination of gaming and exercise was never possible, until now.

A German start-up Icaros GmbH has designed a flight simulator-come-fitness-device that uses Virtual reality to allow you to fly like a superman while exercising! You’ll just need a Samsung smartphone, VR headgear and the custom made exercise machine for the Icaros Flight app to work.

Simply step into the semi-circle ring of the frame, place your feet on the footmarks, put the headset on and hold onto the grips as you soar through the skies just like in your wildest fantasies. The machine allows users to begin with the plank position, with the frame tilting all the way up and down, as well as allowing sideways movement, just like a really cool ride at an amusement park.

The company boasts on their website:

“ICAROS IS A SYSTEM TO FLY THROUGH VIRTUAL WORLDS, PLAY GAMES AND EXERCISE THE BODY AT THE SAME TIME. WE REVOLUTIONIZE THE WAY PEOPLE WORKOUT PLAY.”

Another version of the technology also allows users to dive deep into the virtual ocean to witness a host of sea creatures while exercising.

The app allows multiplayer modes as well, so you can play with your buddies while getting fit.  Icaros Flight trains your core along with your neck, chest, shoulders and quads and the creators claim the exercise seems effortless.

The device comes in one package that includes controllers, a Samsung Gear VR headset and a smartphone and computer app, for €7,900 excluding VAT and shipping. Shipping it to the US will probably cost your another €1,2000 (approx. $1,275) via air mail. But it’s a small price to pay if you are both a fitness nut and a VR enthusiast!

You can learn more about it here.
